Not bad

But not that amazing either. First off, I noticed that the bass sounds very midi-ish. Makes it sound very fake and not that entertaining. The intro guitar is bland at best. The use of clap instead of a snare confused me. This song would sound so much better with a harder, stronger sounding drum line.

The instrument that comes in at 0:14 (I think it's a guitar) is very boring. Just playing fast doesn't make it good. I can't hear it most of the time, as it's drowned out by the rest of the mix.

You would also benefit from mastering the whole track a little better. It sounds very unfinished and mixing can really bring out the true potential here. I would also seriously consider using different synths. Your choices all together are very monotonous.

Not horrible, but it could use a lot of work.

thankz a lot for your critique man!

Great!

In my opinion, this is your best song! I love it. The way you did the drums is awesome, and I can really feel the pirate vibe I think you were going for. Listening to it, I can't think of anything I would change. Keep pumping songs like this out!

Thanks for the review Ness - you're awesome!

Nice vibe

I really like the feel to this song. It's got a nice dark and mysterious vibe. It actually reminds me of the music from the old Sonic games. The lead can get a little whiny sometimes, though.

Try playing with your drum fills a little. I think this song might sound really cool if you had some sweet snare rolls and fills here and there. Great track man!

Nod Bad

I personally don't like the lead on this one. It sounds too trancy, or something like that. It just seems to overpower the other instruments. That lead should be bouncing and gated. But that's just my opinion. The instrumental from 0:49 to the end is awesome, and I think that should be the main riff, not the lead you have.

Still, great effort and a cool loop!

Sentinel responds:

Thanks!
This song was actually a bit rushed, admittedly - just wanted to try out the genre :)
Though, thanks for the review!

Sweet

Great build up from the beginning. I really like your choice of synths. The drums fit well, and I can't find anything wrong with them. You have a lot of cool effects, that all flow well with each other.

My only complaint is that it's way too short, but it does loop very well. It could almost be the intro song to a cd that fades into a sweet techno or rock track. Great work man! I gave you a 5 =).

Thanks for the high rating, and vote!
Also, I appriecate you taking the time to review my song :)

Too Much Clipping

You're definitely clipping. Way too much. The song is cool, but I can't review it properly due to the horrible clipping going on. Try turning down the instruments that are overpowering the rest of the track.

chaosspeed responds:

Hey no problem- No need to be sorry I did it lol, What do you mean by clipping though? Having trouble understanding the problem here.

Nice

Sounds like the build music from The Sims, which is a good thing since I like that music so much! The intro is very good, but I'm not a huge fan of the chord progression from 0:24 - 0:47. It just doesn't sound to me like it fits the sweet sound of the intro and the end. That's just my opinion though.

Great track. I wish it was longer though, so I could give a much more detailed review.

ChrisisD responds:

Thanks for listening and giving this detailed review for this short song! Its like you put more time in the review than i did in this song :P Normally my songs are with better buildups and with better chord progressions. Although this was more like a short jamm that got recorded. So, please take a listen to some of my other songs, you might find em more interesting!

Neat, but way too repetitive

Starting off, the intro is just a little plain. The rhythm starts to get repetitive rather quickly and I keep waiting for something to change. You don't have much "meat" in the first 1 1/2 minutes so it's hard to stay interested. Finally, we hear something interested right at 1:25.

The synth is neat here, but like the intro, it feels like it's dragging on too much. A little variety in the the rhythm and the lead would help a lot. The lead synth just keeps playing the same 4 measure progression for so long. Finally at 2:35, the monotony stops, but not even 5 seconds later it comes right back. As a listener I don't feel like hearing the same sound so much. Even if you use those effects that drag the sound around, you're still just using the same few notes over and over.

Not bad. This song could have some potential if you worked on your melodies a little more.

Okay

Starting off, the intro is cool, but I was hoping that it was just the intro. It turns out to be just a basic rhythm throughout the song and becomes a little boring hearing the same sound over and over.

The instrument that comes in at 0:13 is okay, but it sounds hollow. You should have more of a bass to help the sound of the song as well. I hear bass, but I don't really hear a bass line very well.

The switch at 0:24 is again okay, but nothing too exciting. The whole track sounds messy here. Try cleaning up the mix a little so that it doesn't sound so cluttered.

The drums are very bland and they sound like the stock set in FL Studio. I'd recommend either using different samples, or at least really work on mixing the sounds so they don't sound so monotonous.

You have a good start here, you just need to work on your mixing a little more. You may also look into your choice of synths.

Great track!

I personally like the intro. It feels a little messy, but it's all good. I like the multiple synths jumping around with each other, mixing their sounds. With the hit and the drums coming in at 0:28, I was expecting a little bit more of a hard trance feel to the song, but the drums stopped.

It feels like the song keeps building up, then right before the epic turn into a powerful kick with heavy bass trance song, it falls back down to what sounds like the intro. 1:09 is a perfect example of this. Right as I'm ready to start jumping, it dies down again. Really keeps the listener on his toes! I have to say though, I really like the rhythm and the synths used.

If it were me making the song, I'd personally keep it just how it is, except for at 1:36 or at 1:50 I'd bring in a hard kick rhythm and continue the song for another minute or so giving the listener that build up he's been waiting for.

Also, the instrument at the very end wants to fade out, and I'd let it. That way the track feels finished when it gets to the end.

But that's just me, and I have to say that I really like this song a lot. Keep up the awesome work!

3kliksphilip responds:

Thanks. I really under developed this track, it got to the stage where I had about 1 minute of stuff then I lost all motivation to finish it, what with this being the final track I made for my second 'album'. I wanted to get on and start my third one, finally letting myself use more professional instruments.

I agree with what you say completely and if I do decide to make another song like this one I'll bear it in mind.

What's going on? I am freakin' out! I'm always up for reviewing something, so if you want me to check out your stuff just drop me a PM.
