Awesome work!

What is this in 6/8 time? Lol.

Anyway, the intro is very nice. The drums are awesome. They give the "dark monster coming to get you" vibe. When they kick in really hard at 0:41 with the guitar I started to really rock out to the song. But right as it starts to feel a little too repetitive, it switches up nicely.

The drums do their thing, with the piano continuing the main riff. I really enjoy the synths that fade in from the dark and arise into the front. Brilliant. I'm not quite sure I like the sudden change at 1:42 though. It just feels a little too choppy. I do like the drums going back to the dark side though.

I'm feeling the chord progression, and it starts to get old being played over and over. Maybe try varying it up a little. Now at 2:03, I really like the drums kicking in again and taking over with the hats and cymbals. It sounds like you just started having fun with the synths and letting them take control for a minute. This is something I would have liked to hear a little earlier in the track.

The outro flows rater nicely and fits with the song, unlike a lot I've hear that just stop suddenly. You also have a nice little piano hit at the very end to tease the listener a little. I like that a lot.

Great track! You get my download.

Michael Jackson influence?

Yeah, I'm getting down with this!

I can't tell you what genre this is, since I apparently don't know what any genre is on this site, but I will tell you how sweet this track is:

The intro grabbed my attention, which is what you want in a song. It sounds like you have a little bit of a Michael Jackson influence. Specifically Billie Jean. (And I say that because I've always liked Michael Jackson, not because of the recent news reports about him.)

I'd crank the bass a little. I couldn't hear it at all through my computer speakers, but once I put my headphones on I could hear it, but it's still really quiet. The synth choices are interesting, but really fit the whole song, giving it a really "eerie" vibe that I really enjoy.

It sounds good as an instrumental, like for a little interlude on a CD. I would be interested however to hear vocals added to it, and maybe extended by about 1 minute or so.

Overall, great track! You get my download.

haha, i didn't really mean it to but it does sort of have a michael jackson feel to it doesn't it? i'll try adjusting the bass some with this and i might add some chopped vocals to it, that's interesting i didn't think of that. i'm glad you liked it :)

awesome detailed review, thanks.

The vocals...

I love your enthusiasm, but bring it down a notch. The vocals completely drag down the quality of the track. Now don't get me wrong, I use screaming vocals in my tracks as well, but you are way too loud. Your overpowering the rest of the track.

As a listener, I want to hear what the guitars, drums, and bass are doing along with what your singing/screaming. What I'm saying is mix your voice in with the track, don't just sing over the music.

As far as the rest of the track: From what I can hear the guitars are sweet, but the drums are a little too strong as well. This track could be great, you just need to work on your mixing a little more.

Blackdoom13 responds:

Ok thanks for all the helpful tips, lol I really need to get this mixing shit down.

Really repetitive

I'm not a huge fan of the opening pad. The synth that comes fades in at the beginning is very repetitive to the point it becomes very monotonous. The drums are okay, but they too are very plain and as a listener I start to lose interest in them.

I don't hear any transitions at all. It's just the same sounds over and over and over. I'm waiting for a bass to kick in, and it finally does at 1:36. In my honest opinion, 1:36 is way too long to wait for a bass in this style of music. The bass should help define the song, not hide away and only show up just to show up.

The bass itself is very soft and hard to interpret, and what I can hear just sounds too "midi-ish". Try changing to bass to something with more of a punch and bring it in sooner to help compliment the song.

Overall though, not bad for a WIP. Keep working on it! I'd love to hear it when it's finished.

JebusAndTheHolyYoses responds:

Thank you very much for the honest opinions!
Your constructive criticisms are very much appreciated. This is just a sample, the full song will be different. But thanks a lot for all of your suggestions, and I will try to see what I can do!

Thanks again for all the detail in your review, it will be very VERY helpful!

A Masterpiece

The intro is very nice, and grabbed my attention. I love the distorted guitar that comes in. It fits very well.

The instrument that comes in right at 0:24 sounds a little sharp to me. Or maybe the tone is just too high. Either way, it's cool, but I'm not quite sure if it fits. The drums are sweet and help compliment the song. The cutoff at 0:54 sounds very sudden, but I hear what you're going for there. I would at just a little bit of an echo, or reverb so that it finishes the sound of the drum hits and doesn't sound SO sudden.

I love the voices that come in right at 1:00. They way they're in the background, but still audible is great; it gives the piece a nice "epic" sound, which I believe is what you were going for. The other instruments introduced are very will mixed and sound good as well.

Watch your levels around 1:48. The hit that comes in sounds like it is clipping, which drags the quality of the track down. The break here is very good and reminds me of several video games I've played, specifically Metroid Prime. Trust me when I say that that's a good thing.

I love the Chinese cymbal (at least that what it sounds like to me). It continues with the whole "epic" sound which I love. The rest of the song feels like a long fade out, until you hit around 4:48, where it turns into a laid back hip-hop style beat, which is a nice change and adding the weird synths is a really good feel.

The ending is very sudden, but somehow manages to make the whole song loop fairly decent.

Overall, this song has a few minor flaws, but nothing that would make me give you less then a 10. This is a great piece of work. Keep making these and you will go far.

Cool

This song reminds me a lot of the music from The Sims 2. Very nice sound. I like it a lot. Keep up the good work!

The Drums

The intro is very nice, and makes for a great picture. The one thing I didn't like was when the drums come in at the beginning around 0:40. They give the impression that they're going to be real hard and kick the song off, but they just slip back into the background and hide behind the side stick.

The lead guitar is very nice, and the transition at 1:49 is a nice change, but the song. I hear a bass, but it's very light. It would help to have a much stronger bass to pound through the song.

Filler's are good with the drums, but don't overdo it. Since the drums are so soft, throwing in so many fillers just doesn't fit IMO.

Great track though. A few mixing problems but still a good sound.

I like it

Great sounds. I really like the sound of the drums. Really hard, but not too hard. A little repetitive, but not too bad. I'd like to hear a few breaks here and there, introducing more sounds and taking some away. Where it ends would be perfect for a sweet transition to another two minutes of the song. Great track.

Midi... Way too random

Midi by itself is not a good idea. In other words, it sounds way too fake. Don't get me wrong, I use midi all the time, but if you're going to use it, at least invest in a program like FL Studio to convert the sounds to something slightly more appealing.

That being said, the transition at 0:14 is horrible. You need more then just a random switch on the drums. You're bass is good, but the guitar just doesn't fit until around 0:23 where the little solo comes in.

0:42 is good, but the speed up ruins it and from 0:54 - 1:05 I cringed. Way too fast and high from such a slow and deep sound.

1:05 is good too, and the guitar fits rather nicely. Then it switches again at 1:21 so randomly. Just as I was getting into the soloish part. From 1:21 to the end, it's like a completely different song.

Overall, this song is just way too random. Take those parts out, and you might have something here. You seem to have put some effort in it, so I'll give you a 5.
